The family tree of Pavlovič family from Prešov, eastern Slovakia
|
The first impulse for the creation of a family tree was the matter of fact that the family tree of our family was not worked out by anyone. Another reason was the answering of the question, whether Alexander Pavlovič (1819-1900), a Greek Catholic priest, Ruthenian national revivalist, was our
relative. My research in Greek Catholic registry offices in Prešov has led me to my great-great-grandfather Emanuel
who came from the village Šarišské Čierne (previously Csarne). Registry offices from village Šarišské Čierne were
conserved only till 1857 so this is the reason why it was impossible to continue in further research and discovering
of a potential family relation with Alexander who also came from village Šarišské Čierne. Indirect evidence of a
possible family relation was the reality that Alexander was the god-father of two Emanuel’s, who has lived in Prešov
already, children. The investigation of a family relation was complicated also by another fact. Almost every available
literature concerning Alexander´s life and work has quoted biography written by hand of Alexander. It has quoted
Alexander had brothers Ján, Jozef and sister Mária. I have found the only reference about another two brothers Peter
and Emanuel in book of poetry "Veniec stichotvorenij" ("The garland of poems"), which was
published by Ivan Polivka in 1920. After long four years I succeeded in finding the documents that confirmed my
great-great-grandfather Emanuel really is Alexander´s brother. The documents also confirm the existence of brother
Peter and also sister Anna. I have obtained the copy of Alexander´s biography later. The biography mentions also
brothers Peter and Emanuel, though. There is no mention about sister Anna (I suppose she died when she was young).
There is no one today who can explain me why then authors of books about Alexander did not mention these another
siblings. These are the mysteries which often brings the investigation of our ancestors. The book recieved the 3rd
place in competition "The best genealogical work" in 2004. This competition is organized by Slovak
genealogical-heraldrical company. Besides Alexander it is necessary to mention also another two persons from our
family – my father Rudolf senior and uncle Ladislav. Father Rudolf senior and uncle Ladislav were one of the best
sportsmen from Prešov. They devoted their life to football in Tatran Prešov Club. Uncle Ladislav was excellent
right-forward, he was multiple representative of former Czechoslovakia, he was also holder of two titles for
the best league kicker and member of Club 100. Club 100 associates football kickers who achieved more than
100 scored goals in league matches. Father Rudolf was, on the other hand, great half-back. Even though he did
not got to the representative team of former Czechoslovakia, but due to his hard-work on the football field he
was still the core of team. The family bond with his brother Ladislav was visible on the field during football
mathes. They played at random. Father´s peripheral sight was marvellous. Almost in every second he knew where
is his brother Ladislav while playing. His exact passing the ball has helped Ladislav to gain more than 100
scored goals. The family tree contains 289 family members by now. The oldest ancestor is Greek Catholic priest
Alexej Pavlovič (1726 priest in Šarišské Čierne).
