Greek Catholic family Pavlovič from Šarišské Čierne 1693 – 1900.

The book surveys works of my ancestors – Greek Catholic priests in the period of 1693 – 1900. The ancestors came from the village Šarišské Čierne (previously Csarne), which is situated near Bardejov in eastern part of Slovakia. This book is the result of my five–year research. The book originated on the strength of recommendation made by (today dead already) professor Istvan Udvary from Nyíregyháza, Hungary. I have obtained the information, from available literature, mainly about Greek Catholic priest, Ruthenian national revivalist – Alexander Pavlovič (1819 – 1900). Almost all further information about my ancestors are the result of my research in archives. Many presented information are published for the first time. I mention some of them:
  • The publication of exact date when Greek Catholic priest Ján Pavlovič died (20.02.1824), the father of Alexander and my great-great-grandfather Emanuel.
  • The finding of one of the oldest written record (1726) that contains the information about the work of Greek Catholic priest Alexej Pavlovič in village Šarišské Čierne.
  • The transcription of a liturgical song "A song to Saint Alexej". The song was written by my great-great.....great-grandfather Alexej, once in the first half of the 18th century. The song is interesting because of acrostic: "Alexej Pavlovič presbyter černianskij vivat im"
I would like to thank PhDr. Peter Žeňuch, CSc. for providing this transcription.
